Family Therapy
Often when children experience emotional and behavioral difficulties their distress is related to tension in their family. In that case, the best way to help a child is to work with the entire family. In family therapy a child’s difficulties are not looked at as solely a problem residing in the individual child, but rather as a symptom of a problem in the child’s family system. The family system is viewed as a whole, where all
the parts (i.e. family members and coalitions of family members) influence each other. The therapist’s goal is finding the tension in the family system and helping the family to resolve that tension.
